Application Process for Matric Rewrite 2026
๐ Matric Rewrite โ Frequently Asked Questions
Matric rewrite registration usually opens on 1 October of the year before the exam. This applies mainly to the May / June rewrite session.
Registration normally closes in early February, usually during the first week. Late applications are not accepted.
The May / June rewrite exams are written mid-year, while the November / December session is written at the end of the year.
- Learners who failed matric
- Candidates who failed one or more subjects
- Those wanting to improve their marks
- Adult learners doing Senior Certificate (SC)
You can register:
- At a DBE district office
- At your previous school (in some cases)
- Online (Senior Certificate candidates only)
- Your South African ID
- Your previous matric statement of results
- Proof of registration (if applicable)
If you miss the deadline, you will have to wait for the next matric rewrite cycle. Registration does not reopen once closed.
